Senate Democrats near agreement on new voting rights legislation

  The announcement of a voting rights bill is imminent as the Senate returns from its August recess this week. WASHINGTON — Senate Democrats are close to an agreement on updated voting rights legislation that can get the support of all 50 Democratic-voting senators, three Democratic aides familiar with negotiations said. The For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act were introduced in Congress in 2019 and 2021, respectively. Since their introductions, both have been voted on along party lines. The member-level discussions are complete, a source said, but staff members are going through the text to fix technical issues. Mick Brigden, tour manager for Rolling Stones, dies in accident while digging pet's grave

  Brigden, 73, a manager who also worked with Bob Dylan and Joe Satriani, died Sept. 5 after digging the dog's grave at his home in California. Mick Brigden, a tour manager who worked with artists including The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, died on Sept. 5 after an accident at his home in Santa Rosa, California, his official website announced. He was 73. Brigden's wife, Julia Dreyer Brigden, told the Santa Rosa Press Democrat that her husband was on the property digging a grave for the family's pet dog when the accident happened. Throughout his career, which spanned over 50 years, Brigden served as manager and road manager for the likes of Humble Pie, Peter Frampton, Taj Mahal, Morrison and Carlos Santana. The Duke of York was served Aug. 27 at his home, The Royal Lodge in Windsor, court documents said. Attorneys for a woman who has accused Prince Andrew of sexually abusing her when she was a teenager said he has been served with a federal lawsuit. An affidavit filed Friday in New York's Southern District, where Virginia Giuffre filed the suit last month, said the Duke of York was served Aug. 27 at his home, The Royal Lodge in Windsor. In a letter dated Sept. 6, a U.K.-based attorney for Andrew disputed whether the claim was viable, saying the lawsuit didn't appear to have been served following proper procedures under the Hague Convention. David Boies, an attorney for Giuffre, pushed back, saying in a letter to the judge that the attorney's views were "inconsistent" with the convention. A court hearing is scheduled for Monday.
